High Grove is a very spacious 3-storey cottage with fantastic views to Kirkstone Pass, Red Screes and the Langdale Valley. The front door leads into the hallway, off which are one king-size and one twin-bedded room, both with lots of character and pine furniture. The kitchen, dining and living spaces all occupy the open-plan first floor. The open mezzanine 3rd floor provides even more space to chill out and take in the views and can also sleep a 5th guest if required. NB – bathroom access from mezzanine is via one of the two bedrooms.
Comfortable accommodation in a fabulous location. The views from the windows are stunning. What makes all the difference is how well stocked it is with everyday essentials (like free soap, washing up liquid, kitchen roll, etc.), makes it feel like a home away from home. What makes all the difference is how well stocked it is with everyday essentials (like free soap, washing up liquid, kitchen roll, etc.), makes it feel like a home away from home. The accommodation always smells fresh and clean on arrival and there is a plate of biscuits to welcome you (always very much appreciated after a long drive up). If we had to say anything negative it would be that the bath did not drain properly and the markings on the oven controls had rubbed off so a bit of guess work was required. But we love the place and the problems were not big enough to affect the 5 star rating. We have already booked to return again next year. Read Less
Stayed there with our 4 and 6 year-olds and they loved it too. Fantastic views down the valley to Ambleside. Lots of benches and multiple barbecue grills and wood-burners outside around the farm buildings for evening meals and socials with neighbours if desired.

About 25 mins brisk walk down the lane to Ambleside town. The single-track entrance lane is quite a long stint up to the cottages, but it's not a through road so little chance of encountering cars coming the other way. Most likely to be neighbours, and then you'll figure out the passing places. A great walk up the valley to the pub, the Kirkstone Pass, where you can see all the way down to Lake Windermere in the distance.
Book early to avoid disappointment! We're definitely going to return. Read Less

It is larger but still as warm and comfortable for just 2, well equipped and with fantastic views across the valley to The Struggle and Red Screes. Despite the cold weather, the cottage was warm and very nice to come back to. The bed was so comfortable. Ambleside is about a 15 minute downhill walk, a bit more effort required coming back, and there are several walks to do without having to use the car, Red Screes, Wansfell Pike, over to Grasmere via the Coffin Trail and a few more. Ambleside is almost central to the Lakes so it is a good base, plenty of shops and places to eat, we enjoyed the food and atmosphere in the Unicorn this time. This was our 3rd visit and would have been more often but it is very popular! We will definately be booking again because of the quality and consistency of the accommodation. Read Less

Comfortable sofas in the sitting room. Amazingly the wifi worked really well throughout the cottage.
Although this cottage is within a little terrace of other holiday rentals in the same group (Grove Cottages) it was very quiet and appeared very well insulated for sound - we could hardly hear anything from any of the other cottages.
We did several walks just setting off from the front door, which was lovely. Nice little information room - we borrowed one of the OS maps.
Would definitely recommend this lovely place to stay and explore the Lakes. Read Less

It's well placed for good local walks and there is a small, useful information centre on-site. Communication with the outside world can be difficult as the phone signal's poor / non-existent and the wi-fi didn't work initially but the owner responded very promptly to get it fixed. The interior of the property is simple but delightful and the views across / along the valley are terrific. Read Less
This is a well planned and well maintained cottage set within the hillside overlooking Ambleside. It provided us with an ideal location for our family break.
